KUHN LAUNCHES NEW AXIS 25 FERTILISER SPREADERS

KUHN Farm Machinery has added more technology and greater control for its small to medium fertiliser spreaders following the introduction of its new AXIS 25 range, with capacity options from 1,500-3,500 litres and spread widths from 12-42m.

The new AXIS 25 models are available in three versions (D, V and M-EMC), depending on the type of in-cab control, weighing system and spreading technology selected. KUHN has revised its full AXIS offering, with the AXIS 20.2 and AXIS 30.2 in K and C variants both ceasing production, while the Quantron control box has also been phased out. KUHN’s AXIS 40.2 range has also been reduced to just the AXIS 40.2 M EMC (W) and AXIS 40.2 H EMC (W) ISOBUS-only models. The flagship AXIS 50.2 range remain unchanged.

AXIS 25 D models are the entry level spreaders with manual control and VariSpread 2 offering independent left and right shutoff – identical to the sole remaining AXIS 30.2 D model. The AXIS 25 V and M-EMC spreaders gain ISOBUS control and VariSpread 18, with the M-EMC units also benefiting from KUHN’s Electronic Mass Control (EMC) fertiliser metering instead of a standard weighing system. EMC is well-known to KUHN AXIS users for using live disc drive torque readings to regulate the fertiliser flow to achieve accurate rates across the width, or apply different rates from each side, with no calibration needed.

Ed Loder, KUHN’s arable product marketing specialist, says: “The new AXIS 25 models offer greater choice and allow users to tailor the level of automation and precision required for their farm. It simplifies our offering at this spreader size and uses some of the established features seen on our larger models, such as EMC, to ensure uniformed spreading.”

To guarantee consistent fertiliser delivery to the discs regardless of granule quality or size, KUHN’s Coaxial Distribution Adjustment has a 21cm eight-spoked agitator with a slow 17rpm rotation to ensure free-flowing granules. The outlet shape is 31% larger than previous models, allowing application rates up to 675kg/min or the option to control delivery at low rates and ensure even distribution. V and EMC models use two SpeedServo motors to control the opening for improved adaption to ground speed and rate changes compared with standard hydraulic control. Three optional disc sizes can be selected based on the desired width and type of fertiliser, with the largest AX3 disc accurately applying urea and potash to 36m.

KUHN has introduced VariSpread 18 on the AXIS 25 V and M-EMC models to reduce under or overdosing. It uses 18 sections – nine on either side – to accurately turn on or off sections independently as the spreader negotiates odd-shaped fields and headlands.

For improved border control, two new deflector options begin with the TELIMAT X system, positioned on the right-hand side of the spreader and engaged hydraulically without stopping or disengaging the drive. Two border management settings include yield-optimised, which applies full rate up to the field border, and an environment-optimised setting for alongside watercourses. GSE X is a tailored bed spreading option for high value crops to avoid granule distribution behind the spreader.

ISOBUS control is standard on the new AXIS 25, either through the tractor’s terminal or via KUHN’s range of CCI units. These include the colour touchscreen 5.7in CCI 60, the 8in CCI 800, and 12in CCI 1200 interfaces, offering displays of multiple applications on the same screen and the CCI A3 joystick is optional for up to 30 programmable settings. KUHN Connect offers Remote View of CCI screens, while KUHN EasyTransfer and Agrirouter wirelessly share maps and task between machines, terminals and management platforms.

For improved safety, there’s a folding stepped platform for operators to gain access for splitting bags, and a new LED kit, including rear lights and internal hopper lighting.
