THE DIGITAL DAIRY HERD WEBINAR SERIES WILL OUTLINE THE BENEFITS OF HERD MONITORING TECHNOLOGIES
MSD Animal Health today announced that it is contributing to a series of webinars aimed at helping dairy farmers and herd managers to understand more about how herd monitoring systems such as SenseHub® Dairy can improve the health, fertility and productivity of adult dairy cows, youngstock and heifers.
Dairy farmers looking for information and guidance on how herd monitoring technologies can help to improve their herd’s health, fertility and productivity can register for a series of free-to-attend webinars in July and August.
The ‘Digital Dairy Herd’ webinars are being hosted by Farmers Guardian in conjunction with MSD Animal Health and will be chaired by Farmers Guardian and Dairy Farmer editor, Katie Jones. Speakers will include Dr Stephanie Small, Veterinary Advisor for Technology for MSD Animal Health, as well as three UK dairy farmers, each of whom will explain how they are using MSD Animal Health’s SenseHub Dairy system to monitor and improve performance of their adult dairy cows, youngstock and heifers.
“The latest generation of herd monitoring systems offers much more beyond basic heat detection or rumination assessment in adult dairy cows,” Dr Small explains. “Systems such as SenseHub Dairy capture data at all stages in the dairy animal’s life, including from birth to 12 months, and can provide a huge amount of information regarding how each individual animal, or group of animals, is performing.
“But with so much information available, and with a lot of users only scratching the surface in terms of what these technologies can offer, the aim of the webinars is to shed more light onto how herd monitoring systems can be used to make better management decisions which not only improve animal health, welfare and performance, but which also benefit the working lives of the farm’s human resources.”
The webinars will focus on three key stages in the dairy cow’s lifecycle: improving the fertility, health and productivity of adult dairy cows, using technology to detect, prevent and monitor health issues in dairy youngstock, and managing the health and fertility of heifers as they transition into the milking herd.
