Closure of sugar beet factories in the region has reduced farmers cropping options, and with demand for UK-bred Aber varieties growing on a global scale and input costs for the crop relatively low herbage seeds could be a consideration for many, says John Fairey, seed production manager with meeting hosts British Seed Houses. Grass seed production fulfils many of the criteria for an added value alternative enterprise, he says. It can suit arable or mixed farming situations and is a break crop that brings a number of benefits to the rotation as well as a healthy gross margin. British Seed Houses is actively looking for more growers in the region and this meeting will provide the ideal opportunity to find out if it is the crop for you. In addition to Mr Fairey, speakers at the meeting will include experienced herbage seed grower Philip Gorringe and Neil Smith from harvesting machinery company Shelbourne Reynolds. The meeting is being held at Pike Hills Golf Club in York and begins at 10.30am and will be followed by lunch. Interested growers should contact John Fairey in the first instance on 07747 784234. - Ends - October 20, 2008 Further information from: John Fairey British Seed Houses Tel: 01522 868714 or 07747 784234 Email: HYPERLINK "mailto:john.fairey@britishseedhouses.com" john.fairey@britishseedhouses.com Issued by Matt Mellor, Agribusiness Communications Ltd Tel: 01694 731777 Email: HYPERLINK "mailto:matt@abccomms.co.uk" matt@abccomms.co.uk k | $ % & G H j#U0JjU jU OJQJ^JH*KL>?@A` a j k | } ~ I J $a$$a$$T`Ta$`$a$ ,1h/ =!"#$% #DyK "john.fairey@britishseedhouses.comyK jmailto:john.fairey@britishseedhouses.comyX;H,]ą'cDyK matt@abccomms.co.ukyK Nmailto:matt@abccomms.co.ukyX;H,]ą'c iD@D Normal$CJOJQJ^J_HaJmH sH tH 2@2 Heading 1$@&5\<A@< Default Paragraph FontDP@D Body Text 2 7$8$H$OJQJ^JaJ.U@.
